You do not need another degree to earn more. You need a skill that employers visibly pay for, plus proof you can use it.
The Get Interviews Resume Toolkit helps you show new skills on your resume in a way recruiters notice in the first few seconds.
Here are five skills with real evidence behind them, and a simple way to start each one this week.
1. Project management
The PMI's 14th salary survey found PMP holders earn about 17% more at the median across 21 countries, and nearly 24% more in the US, though experience plays a part. Start: list three projects you have run, and volunteer to lead the next one.
2. AI fluency
PwC's 2026 AI Jobs Barometer found a 62% average wage premium for AI skills, with postings requiring them growing 69%. Start: use an AI tool on one weekly task and record the time saved.
3. Negotiation
A study of about 3,858 tech job seekers found that countering an offer raised pay by about 12.45% on average. Start: practice the one-sentence ask: "Is there flexibility on the base salary?"
4. Leadership and decision-making
PwC also found that employers increasingly reward people skills such as decision-making, originality and leadership. Start: take ownership of one decision at work this week and write down the result.
5. Clear communication
Every skill above is worth more when you can explain it. Start: write a three-sentence update on your last win: what you did, how, and the result with a number.
How to prove a skill
Employers believe examples, not claims. Use this simple resume line for any new skill:
"[Action verb] [what you did] using [skill or tool], resulting in [number or outcome]."
Do one, not five
Pick the skill closest to your current job, and spend 30 days on it. Depth beats a long list.
If you want a complete job search system to put these skills to work, from your resume to the offer conversation, the Get Hired Faster System has 22 resources in one place.
