A certification will not magically get you hired.
But the right free certification can help you show effort, build job-ready skills, improve your CV, and give you something recent to talk about in interviews.
This is especially useful if you are:
Looking for your first job
Returning to work after a gap
Changing careers
Trying to move into digital marketing, sales, admin, tech, or customer support
Trying to make your CV look stronger
Trying to prove you are learning new skills
But there is one important warning.
Not every “free certificate” is actually free.
Some platforms let you start for free but charge you later.
Some offer a free trial but require a subscription.
Some let you watch the course for free but charge for the certificate.
That is not what this list is about.
This guide focuses on options that offer real learning value and a way to show completion without paying, based on the information available from the official platforms at the time of writing.
What makes a free certification worth adding to your CV?
A free certification is useful when it helps you prove a skill that connects to the job you want.
The best free certifications usually help you show one of these:
Digital skills
Marketing skills
Customer service skills
AI skills
Data and analytics skills
Business skills
Communication skills
Project skills
CRM or software knowledge
Career readiness
The certificate alone is not the main value.
The real value is what you can do after completing it.
A recruiter does not only care that you watched videos.
They want to know:
“What can you now do better?”
That means you should always connect a course to a skill, project, or result.
1. HubSpot Academy Certifications
HubSpot Academy is one of the best places to start if you want free certifications in marketing, sales, content, customer service, CRM, and business growth.
HubSpot says its certifications are completely free and online, and its certification page includes free certifications and badges that can be added to LinkedIn.
Good options include:
Digital Marketing Certification
Email Marketing Certification
Content Marketing Certification
Social Media Marketing Certification
Inbound Marketing Certification
Sales Software Certification
Service Hub Software Certification
This is a strong choice if you want roles such as:
Marketing assistant
Digital marketing assistant
Content assistant
Social media coordinator
Email marketing assistant
Sales development representative
Customer support
Customer success
CRM assistant
Why it helps
HubSpot is useful because many businesses care about marketing funnels, email lists, leads, sales processes, CRM systems, and customer relationships.
If you complete a HubSpot course, do not just write:
HubSpot Digital Marketing Certification
Add context.
Better:
Completed HubSpot Digital Marketing Certification covering content strategy, email marketing, lead generation, and campaign planning.
Even stronger:
Completed HubSpot Digital Marketing Certification and used the framework to build a sample campaign plan with email subject lines, landing page ideas, and lead-generation goals.
That shows you did something with the learning.
2. Google Skillshop Certifications
Google Skillshop offers free online training for Google workplace and marketing tools, and Google describes Skillshop as free online training where learners can develop skills and get Google product certified.
This can be valuable because many companies use Google tools every day.
Useful areas include:
Google Ads
Google Analytics
Google Marketing Platform
Google Workspace
YouTube
Campaign measurement
Google’s own support pages also describe Google Ads certifications as professional accreditations that can help demonstrate proficiency in basic and advanced aspects of Google Ads.
Google Analytics Academy on Skillshop is also described by Google as a collection of free e-learning courses designed by Analytics experts, with Google Analytics offering training courses and a certification.
This is a strong choice if you want roles such as:
Digital marketing assistant
PPC assistant
SEO assistant
Marketing analyst
E-commerce assistant
Social media assistant
Junior growth marketer
Website or analytics assistant
Why it helps
Google skills are practical.
If a job description mentions Google Ads, Google Analytics, campaign reporting, traffic, conversions, or paid marketing, these certifications can help show you are serious.
Do not only add the certificate.
Add a small project.
For example:
Completed Google Analytics training and created a sample report tracking traffic sources, engagement, conversions, and top-performing pages.
Or:
Completed Google Ads certification and built a sample campaign structure with keywords, ad groups, and conversion goals.
That makes the certification more useful.
3. Google Fundamentals of Digital Marketing
Google’s Fundamentals of Digital Marketing course on Skillshop covers digital marketing topics such as AI tools, video content, digital marketing strategy, digital customers, content, business data, social media, and search, with 17 modules created by Google experts.
This is a good starting point for beginners because it gives you a broad foundation before you specialize.
It can help if you want to understand:
Digital marketing basics
Content strategy
Search
Social media
Customer behavior
Business data
Online growth
This is useful for:
Marketing beginners
Small business support roles
Admin professionals supporting marketing
Freelancers
Career changers
People building a side project
People trying to understand online business
Important note
Do not confuse this with the Google Career Certificates on Coursera.
Some Google Career Certificates may advertise enrolment or a trial, but the full certificate path is not the same as a completely free certificate. Google’s Career Certificates page currently mentions subscription access and a 7-day trial, so I would not include those in a “100% free certification” list.
For this post, we are only focusing on options that do not depend on a paid certificate or a free trial.
4. IBM SkillsBuild Digital Credentials
IBM SkillsBuild is a strong option for people who want to build tech, AI, career readiness, data, cybersecurity, and workplace skills.
IBM describes SkillsBuild as free online, skills-based learning with courses and credentials for free.
IBM also has an adult learner section that says learners can gain skills for entry-level tech jobs, earn credentials, and get guidance from technology experts, all for free.
Useful areas may include:
Artificial intelligence

Cybersecurity
Cloud computing
Professional skills
Career readiness
Workplace skills
Technology fundamentals
This is useful for:
Entry-level tech candidates

Career changers
People interested in AI
People returning to work
Students
Job seekers who want recent proof of learning
Why it helps
IBM is a recognized name, and SkillsBuild gives you a way to show that you are learning modern workplace skills.
A strong CV line could be:
Completed IBM SkillsBuild credential in AI fundamentals, covering practical AI concepts, responsible use, and workplace applications.
Or:
Completed IBM SkillsBuild learning pathway in cybersecurity fundamentals to build knowledge of online safety, risk awareness, and digital security basics.
Then connect it to the job.
For example:
This supports my ability to work safely with digital tools, understand basic cybersecurity risks, and adapt to technology-driven workplaces.
5. Salesforce Trailhead Badges
Salesforce Trailhead is a valuable free learning platform if you want to learn CRM, customer data, sales operations, customer service, business systems, or Salesforce basics.
Trailhead describes badges as short, self-paced tutorials that cover individual topics.
Salesforce also says Trailhead superbadges let learners apply what they have learned to solve real-world challenges.
This is useful for roles such as:
Sales assistant
CRM assistant
Customer success
Customer support
Sales operations
Business operations
Admin assistant
Marketing operations
Junior Salesforce admin path
Important note
Salesforce professional certification exams are often paid.
So for a fully free list, focus on Trailhead badges, trails, and superbadges that let you build and show learning without paying for a formal certification exam.
Why it helps
Many companies use CRM systems, and Salesforce is one of the most recognized CRM platforms.
Even if a job does not require Salesforce, Trailhead can help you understand concepts such as:
Leads
Contacts
Accounts
Opportunities
Pipelines
Dashboards
Customer records
Sales processes
Service workflows
A stronger CV line could be:
Completed Salesforce Trailhead badges in CRM fundamentals, lead management, and sales process basics.
Even better:
Completed Salesforce Trailhead badges and built a sample CRM workflow showing how leads move from first contact to follow-up and sales opportunity.
That shows practical understanding.
6. Semrush Academy Certifications
Semrush Academy is a good option if you want marketing, SEO, content, AI search, competitor research, and digital visibility skills.
Semrush Academy describes its online marketing courses as free, and its certification page says learners can get certified for free after completing course content and passing the necessary quizzes or final exam.
Semrush also says all Semrush Academy courses, including AI Search courses, are free, with no cost to access course content or earn the certificate upon completion.
This is useful for:
SEO assistants
Content writers
Digital marketing assistants
Social media marketers
Marketing coordinators
Small business owners
Freelancers
People building an online audience
People interested in AI search visibility
Good areas include:
SEO
Content marketing
AI search
Competitive research
Digital marketing
Social media
PPC
Local SEO
Why it helps
A lot of companies want people who understand how to attract traffic, answer customer questions, and improve online visibility.
A strong CV line could be:
Completed Semrush Academy SEO certification covering keyword research, content optimization, competitive research, and search visibility.
Even better:
Completed Semrush Academy SEO certification and created a sample keyword plan for a business, including target keywords, article ideas, and competitor gaps.
That turns the certificate into proof.
7. OpenLearn Badged Courses From The Open University
OpenLearn is the free learning platform from The Open University.
OpenLearn says everything on the platform is free to everyone, and learners can earn free digital badges or statements of participation on most courses.
OpenLearn’s badged courses include formal assessment, and learners who complete and pass can earn a verified digital Open University badge that can be shared or added to a CV.
This is useful because OpenLearn covers many areas, including:
Business
Leadership
Management
Education
Technology
Communication
Health and social care
Law
Society
Digital skills
This can help people who want roles in:
Admin
Management support
Education
Social care
Community work
Business support
Project coordination
Career change
Entry-level professional roles
Why it helps
OpenLearn can be especially useful for people who want to show recent learning after a career gap or career change.
A strong CV line could be:
Completed OpenLearn badged course in managing people, covering leadership, communication, and workplace decision-making.
Or:
Completed OpenLearn course in design thinking, building practical knowledge in problem-solving, idea development, and user-focused solutions.
What I would not include in this list
To keep this list honest, I would avoid anything that is only partly free.
That includes:
Free trials
Courses that charge for the certificate
Platforms where the course is free but the certificate is paid
Subscription-based certificates
“Enroll free” pages that later require payment
Paid verified certificates
Certificates locked behind a 7-day trial
For example, edX is valuable for learning, but edX says its free online courses do not come with certificates and that certificates usually require the paid verified track.
So edX can be great for learning, but I would not include it in a post about 100% free certificates.
How to choose the right free certification
Do not collect random certificates just to fill your CV.
Choose the certification based on the job you want.

How to add free certifications to your CV
Do not just create a long list.
Add the most relevant ones.
You can create a section called:
Certifications & Training
Example:
Certifications & Training
HubSpot Academy — Digital Marketing Certification
Google Skillshop — Google Analytics Certification
IBM SkillsBuild — AI Fundamentals Digital Credential
Semrush Academy — SEO Certification
Salesforce Trailhead — CRM Fundamentals Badges
If you are applying for a specific role, move the most relevant certification higher.
For example, if you apply for a marketing role, HubSpot, Google, and Semrush may matter most.
If you apply for customer success or sales operations, HubSpot and Salesforce may matter more.
How to make a free certification more impressive
A certificate is stronger when you create a small project from it.
For example:
Marketing certificate
Create:
A sample content calendar
A keyword list
A landing page audit
A simple email campaign
A social media plan
A campaign report
Google Analytics certificate
Create:
A sample traffic report
A conversion tracking plan
A dashboard mockup
A website performance summary
CRM certificate
Create:
A sample pipeline
A customer follow-up workflow
A lead qualification checklist
A sales process map
AI certificate
Create:
A simple AI workflow
A responsible AI checklist
A prompt library for work tasks
A before-and-after productivity example
Then you can say:
“I completed the certification and used it to build a sample project.”
That is much stronger than:
“I watched a course.”
How to talk about free certifications in an interview
You may be asked:
“Tell me about this certification.”
Do not just say:
“I took it online.”
Use this structure:
Why you chose it → What you learned → How it connects to the role → What you created or improved
Example:
“I completed the HubSpot Digital Marketing Certification because I wanted to understand how content, email, and lead generation work together. It helped me learn the basics of campaign planning, customer journeys, and measuring performance. I also used the course to create a sample email campaign and content plan, which helped me practise applying the concepts.”
That sounds serious.
It shows intention.
It shows effort.
It shows application.
A simple 30-day free certification plan
Week 1: Choose one target role
Pick the type of job you want.
Marketing, admin, sales, customer support, operations, tech, or AI.
Week 2: Choose one free certification
Pick the certification that matches your target role.
Do not start five at once.
Finish one properly.
Week 3: Complete the course and take notes
Write down:
Key skills learned
Tools mentioned
Terms used in job descriptions
Ideas you can apply
Examples you can discuss in interviews
Week 4: Build one small proof project
Create something simple that shows you can use what you learned.
Then update your CV, LinkedIn, and interview examples.
Final Thought
Free certifications can help you get hired, but only if you use them properly.
Do not collect certificates just to decorate your CV.
Choose skills that match the job you want.
Complete the course.
Understand the ideas.
Build a small project.
Add it to your CV.
Talk about it in interviews.
The certificate is not the final goal.
The goal is to become more employable.
The goal is to show proof.
The goal is to build confidence.
And the goal is to create more options for your future without spending money you may not have.
