Happy Halloween. The scariest thing in your job search is not a ghost. It is the question you did not practice.

The best way to take the fear out of hard questions is to say your answers out loud before the real thing. The AI Interview Coach lets you rehearse and review your answers anytime, so nothing catches you off guard.

Here are five questions that make people freeze, with a simple structure for each.

1. "Why should we hire you?"

Match their top need to your best result.

❝

"You need someone who can [their main need]. In my last role I [specific result], and I'd bring the same approach here."

2. "Where do you see yourself in five years?"

Show ambition that fits the role, not a plan to leave it.

❝

"I want to keep growing in [field], take on more responsibility and become someone the team relies on. This role is a strong step in that direction."

3. "Tell me about a time you failed."

Pick a real, modest failure and spend most of the answer on what you changed.

❝

"I [mistake, kept short]. I took responsibility, [what you did to fix it], and now I always [new habit]. The next time, it went smoothly."

4. "Why is there a gap on your resume?"

Be brief, honest and forward-looking.

❝

"I took time to [reason: caregiving, health, relocation, a layoff]. During that time I [anything useful you did]. I'm now fully ready to return and focused on [role]."

5. "What are your salary expectations?"

Give a researched range, and keep it flexible.

❝

"Based on my research for this role in [location], I'm looking at [range]. I'm open to discussing the full package."

The trick that beats the fear

Write each answer in two or three sentences, say it out loud three times, and stop editing. Confidence comes from repetition, not from the perfect wording.
